Ellen Encapera

Ellen H. Encapera, RN, CEN, is currently serving as a member of the Emergency Nurses Association board of directors, the specialty nursing association serving the emergency nursing profession through research, publications, professional development and injury prevention. Encapera’s term ends in December 2011.

Encapera's most recent position was as a full-time clinical nurse in the Cardiovascular-Cath Lab Department at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, California.

During her tenure with ENA, Encapera has served on many national, state and local committees. On the national level, she was most recently a member of the Nominations Committee from 2005 to 2010 and served as chairperson from 2007 to 2008. Other committee service includes the State Council and Chapter Relations Work Group (2004), the International Task Force (2001) and the Membership Committee (1999-2000). She has been a General Assembly delegate and a co-author of several bylaw amendment proposals. Encapera has also authored several articles for ENA Connection.

At the state level, Encapera has been an active member of the California state council, serving as secretary from 1996-1997, and delegation coordinator from 1998 to 2010. She has been chairperson and sole member of the California state Membership Committee since 1998 and a member of the California Education Committee since 1997.  The state of California was awarded two national achievement awards for best practices related to recruitment and retention. As a member of the state education committee she has contributed to the development and coordination of state educational presentations serving emergency nursing and related services.

At the local level, Encapera served as secretary, president-elect and president of the Orange Coast Chapter. She is chairperson of the Orange Coast Membership Committee.  As a member of the chapter Education Committee, she has been instrumental in the development and coordination of several successful educational conferences for emergency nurses.

Encapera received her diploma in nursing in 1969 from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has been a certified emergency nurse since 1984, and is both an American Heart Association basic and advanced cardiac life support provider.
